Navratri Pooja is celebrated twice in a year, once in the month of March or April and other in the month of September or October. Navratri is dedicated to worship of goddess Durga and is the most awaited festival for all age groups specially Durga Puja that comes in September or October.

Chaitra Navratri is observed when Mother Nature undergoes an significant climate change. It also marks the beginning of the summer season. There is a popular belief regarding this pooja is that the fasting during Navrati is to prepare the body for the ensuing summer season.

Katie SPotz – Youngest person to row solo across Atlantic ocean

Katie Spotz at only 22 years age become the world’s youngest person to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She travelled 2,817 miles in almost 70 days to achieve this accomplishment.

She started her journey on Jan. 3 from Dakar, Senegal, in West Africa and had planned on arriving in Cayenne, French Guiana. However, Spotz altered her course earlier this month.

On the 70th day, She told that her boat caught fire and – ” My tracker unit has been acting up and took its final farewell up in smoke. I quickly grabbed the fire extinguisher and, being so close to land, I didnâ€™t plan on taking any other course of action. Thankfully, all the glitches and malfunctions seem to be happening in the final days”

When the last four miles were left, Guyana prepared to welcome Katie to Georgetown, as she was tracked by the Coast Guard boat and a helicopter.

Thanking to everybody she told that – ” I am so thankful to all of the people who followed my journey and sent me encouraging messages, but especially for their donations and support for safe drinking water, which were inspirations for the row,”

The only match scheduled for today is being played between Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals. Rajasthan Royals had lost their first match against Mumbai Indians despite Yousuf Pathan’s century.

Delhi Daredevils won their first match by defeating kings XI Punjab by 5 wickets with only one ball remaining. In today’s match all eye will be on batting of Pathan – whether he can score second ton today.

The match between both of them has already started. G Smith and Asnodkar once again opened for Rajasthan Royals today. Asnodkar hit the first four for their team in the first ball and later on is back to the pavilion after merely 5 runs.

Gate 2010 results announced at IIT bombay website – Admissions for IIT Kanpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur open , gate scoring method

Finally at 10 AM this morning the results for GATE 2010 has been announced. The results for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering has been declared just few moments back at IIT Bombay Gate page.

Students should check the result a soon as possible as due to heavy traffic, the servers may become unresponsive.

Students can check the results from the official website of Gate. To see click here for your results. For checking the results you only require your registration number.

Gate scoring method has also been mentioned on the Gate website. and here it is –
The GATE score is calculated using the following formula:

GATE SCORE = 10[ag + sg {(m – a)/s}]
where,

m = marks obtained by the candidate.

a = average of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE 2010, with all marks less than zero, converted to zero.

s = standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE 2010, with all marks less than zero, converted to zero.

ag = average (global) of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers and years 2007-2010, with all marks less than zero, converted to zero.

sg = standard deviation (global) of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers and years 2007-2010, with all marks less than zero, converted to zero.

The GATE score is set to zero if the value calculated by the above formula is less than zero and the GATE score is set to 1000 if the value calculated by the above formula is more than 1000.

National invitation Tournament NIT bracketology 2010 NCAA basketball is out

The full schedule for National Invitation tournament is out on NIT official website. Connecticut, North Carolina, UCLA, Arizona and Indiana didn’t make it to the NCAA tournament.

NIT will begin on tuesday from March 2010 onwards. All game will be played at madison square garden. And the match which will decide NIT champion will be played on April 1 2010.

On 16th March, few matches that will be played are Troy vs Mississippi, Jacksonville vs Arizona State, North Carolina vs William and Mary, South Florida vs NC state and various state.

Pi day jokes – Happy Pi day and Albert Einstein Birthday

World is celebrating today Pi day and also this day coincides with Great Albert Einstein Birthday. Pi day is celebrated because it resembles Pi value 3.14.

As from Wikipedia – Pi Day and Pi Approximation Day are two holidays held to celebrate the mathematical constant Ï€ (pi) (in the mm/dd date notation: 3/14); since 3, 1 and 4 are the first three decimal digits of Ï€.

Albert Einstein Birthday is also celebrated today on March 14. This great Nobel Prize winner scientist born on March 14 1879 and is famous for his theory of Relativity e=mc^2.

Similar to Pi day, another Pi approximation day is celebrated on July 22. Its because of the Ancient mathematician Archimedes’ first rough approximation of Ï€ as being 22/7. However, this may be considered misleading, as all cited dates are “approximation days” (since Ï€ is an irrational number) and 22/7 is actually a closer approximation of Ï€ than 3.14 is. Typically, March 14 is more popular for countries using the month/day format and the 22nd of July is more popular for countries using the day/month format.

Savant Pianist Derek Paravicini played piano on CBS 60 minutes – Youtube video

A Blind savant from England Derek Paravicini was profiled on CBS 60 minutes today just few hours back. The way he played piano almost made everybody dumbstruck despite his inability to communicate verbally or physically.

Musical savant Derek Paravicini can remember and play a song after just one listen. He can also change its style or key instantaneously. Hear his Russian dance version of the disco classic in the video below.

Paravicini has ability to play any piece of music that he’s ever heard, he’s able to play them in any number of different styles, taking a show tune, for example, and playing it in a jazz style and back again as if he is simply changing the stations on a television by a remote.

Those who don’t know, what actually savants are – Here goes the definition made by savantacademy – “At their most spectacular level, savants possess abilities that surpass non-disabled prodigies and geniuses. Savants may demonstrate, for example, an ability to recite pages of text on a single hearing, to multiply six-digit numbers in their head, or to memorize and perform any song played for them just once.
