Commonwealth Games most commonly known as CWG games will kick off from tomorrow onwards. October 3 2010 is reserved for the opening ceremony of CWG games.
CWG games opening ceremony will go live on 3rd October at 1900 hrs and venue for this is Jawaharlal Nehru stadium Delhi. Main sports events will start from October 4 with Aquatics SW, swimming and archery which will follow other events.
Only 20 hours are remaining before the countdown is over and games kicks off with a bang and all sort of fireworks. Here are some of the facts about opening ceremony that has been tweeted by the official CWG twitter account.
Over 600 volunteers have been appointed and trained for the Opening Ceremony. The main stage, inspired by the Mandala, is one of the largest built for an Opening or Closing Ceremony. The Aerostat, suspended 25m above ground, has an underbelly of mirrors that will reflect light on the field of play and the star attraction of the Opening Ceremony, the Aerostat, is the biggest Helium balloon in the world.
There has been special advice for traffic as per official website – Restrictions on movement of General Traffic
i) From 6.00 A.M. to Midnight: Bhishma Pitamaha Marg – from Lodhi Road to Kotla Mubarakpur, both ways.
ii) From 2.00 P.M. : Lodhi Road between Safdarjang Madrasa to Lodhi Road flyover.
iii) Jawarharlal Nehru Stadium Marg – Mehar Chand Market to Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.
iv) MTNL Building road- Scope Complex Chowk to Kushak Nallah (iii) and (iv) already closed.
v) 2.30 P.M. to 6.30 P.M. :
a) NH-24 from Noida Mor flyover to Ring Road – Nizamuddin T-point.
b) Ring Road from Bhairon Road T-point to Ashram.
vi) 8.00 P.M. to 1.00 A.M.
a) From Ring Road from Ashram to Bhairon Road T-point.
b) NH-24 between Ring Road – Nizamuddin T-point to Noida Mor flyover
